Fishing for halibut...

August can be a wonderful time to fish in Southeast Alaska!

A Rainy Day....

Rain didn't dampen the spirits or the talent of these fishermen.

Cohos/Silver Salmon

These are beautiful fish!

Impressive!

That's a nice assortment of fish. Well done!

Looks great!

It's terrific to catch enough different kinds of fish to make an interesting pattern.

Family Fishing

This family spends a lot of time fishing together. We enjoyed having them on the Silver Talon very much!

The Best Catch

Each of these fishermen picked their favorite fish to show off. You can see why!

Holding his limit!

Just try to hold 6 silvers at the same time. We're impressed!

What a smile!

Could anyone be happier about catching a halibut?

This fish is heavy!

But she can handle it with ease and a smile. Her enthusiasm is contagious.

Sisters...

These young ladies make fishing look like a lot of fun.

Excellent catch!

It was a successful day fishing for these fishermen.

Showing off the halibut...

It's not easy to hold 2 halibut like this, but he had to try it.

More showing off...

Okay, let's give him a try, too.

Another one has to show off his catch...

and he's pretty happy to do it.

Biggest show off of all!

Captain Lee holds these halibut with just 2 fingers.

Terrific Yelloweye!

What a wonderful specimen of this type of fish. Thanks for showing it off.

Ron has a halibut on!

The water was a little bumpy, but it didn't stop Ron from catching a nice halibut.

Tyler hooked this Ling Cod!

This fish was as big as fishermen in Alaska are allowed to keep. Good work, Tyler! He also caught a lot of bottom fish.

Family Portrait

Grand-dad Ron and Tyler fished successfully on the Silver Talon. Both of these beautiful fish (a Ling Cod & a big Yelloweye) were caught by Tyler.

The sun shone for the photos...

It had been raining a bit on the Silver Talon and at the dock, but it stopped long enough to get some photos of Capt. Lee, Tyler, Ron, and Ben with the catch of the day.

Legal Ling Cod

There haven't been many Ling Cod at the dock this year, so it was great to see Vince catch such a nice specimen.

Bob's Halibut

Bob was proud of his catch and you can see why!

Fishing friends...

Larry, Bob, Vince, and Allan spent 3 days fishing with Captain Lee. They didn't mind having Ben along to fill his own fish boxes with tasty Alaskan fish and we appreciated their generosity.

Captain Lee was thrilled...

This catch made Megan, Kevin, Larry, Ben, and Rob (in front) just as happy.

A bit of perspective...

Those halibut really do look big (they were!) when you put Ben's 6'5" frame near them.

Go, Kevin!

Kevin was able to lift this monster clear off the dock.

Pick it up, Megan!

The smile on her face is enough to show that Megan had another terrific day on the boat with Captain Lee.

Rob's a happy man!

He enjoyed catching a big halibut on a calm summer day.

Rob & Larry lift their catch together...

but it wasn't easy to hoist those big fish up off the dock.

The Dark Side....

Larry wanted to show the dark side of a halibut for comparison. Thanks, Larry!

A grand day for fishing!

Kevin, Megan, Larry, Rob, and Ben not only fished, they caught. These were some of the nicest fish we've seen all summer. Believe it or not, they had to release another big fish because they had their limit of them by noon.

Fish Eyes!

Ben only had eyes for fish on this day.

It's a Yelloweye!!!

Larry shows off his catch above the halibut.

One... two.... LIFT!

Bob and Allan wanted to pick up their fish. Smile!

Impressive catch!

Larry, Allan, Bob, Vince, and Ben missed large numbers of halibut, but made up for it in size. Nice yelloweye, Larry!

Good catch!

Larry, Larry, Rob, and Ben added to their collection of fillets on this fishing day.

Better than the office!

Fishing out of Coffman Cove on the Silver Talon is a nice break from the office. It looked like a great day for Ben, Joe, Evan, Bill, and Brock.

Bonnie, Pete, Pat, and Larry

Catching fish together made for a great day on the water for these couples.

Bonnie is Strong!

She had fun fishing with Capt. Lee; and then lifting this nice halibut for some photos really made her smile.

Pete is, too!

Pete wanted to share his wife's enthusiasm.

Snow White Bellies

The sun came out just long enough to show off the beautiful bright fish that Rob, Larry, and Frank caught while fishing with Capt. Lee.

The Silver Talon

Here's a photo of Captain Lee bringing the Silver Talon into Coffman Cove after another successful day on the water.

Breaching Humpback Whale

We don't know why the whales do this, but it's awesome to see it happen.

Keep your eyes open!

You never know what you're going to see when you fish in Southeast Alaska.

VICTORY!

Guess who caught the biggest fish in the boat this day?

Let's make 'em shine in the sun...

Capt. Lee hoses off the catch so they'll be pretty for the pictures.

Kickin' our heels up!

These guys were so happy and contented that they just had to kick up their heels.

A little competition of strength...

It's not as easy at you'd think to lift 2 nice halibut.

That's as far as I can lift them!

Nice try. Keep practicing!

Captain Lee

He's been practicing. No fair!

Marty hooks a halibut...

And he couldn't be happier! Neither could we.

All smiles!

Marty deserves a pat on the back for a job well done!

The catch...

Marty and his halibut.

Nice assortment of fish!

The yelloweye really looks bright orange against the snow-bellies of salmon and halibut.

Ladder 157 Rocks!

Pat, Phil, Todd, Don (firefighter from FDNY), Troy, and Ben had a great day of fishing with Captain Lee on the Silver Talon. We were honored to meet you and have you on the boat. Thanks for everything and we'll see you again next year!

Fun fishing!

Catching fish in SE Alaska is a real pleasure. Thanks for riding the Silver Talon.

Megan & Ilene

It was terrific to have Mom onboard when Megan caught her first halibut.... a 90 pounder!

Rain, rain, and more rain....

Although the day was wet and windy and the fish weren't very cooperative, the guys had a good time.

Retirement is sweet!

You get to go fishing in Alaska and bring some home.

Just a little scratch...

Capt. Lee cleans and bandages a wound Randy got when his halibut moved while hanging on a gaff hook for photos on the boat. No stitches for him, though; he wanted to go back out and fish for salmon.

It was worth the pain!

Randy caught a nice halibut.

Cooperative fish!

Not only did the fish bite the bait, they lined up real nice for the photo.

Great job, Nichole!

She had a productive day on the Silver Talon.

Proud to be a fisher!

White halibut against the blue backdrop of water in Coffman Cove. Who could ask for more?

Sunshine!

The sun has been rare in summer 2008, so it was good to enjoy it on the Silver Talon catching some great fish.

Cold day in July...

but it was great fishing for this group from Oregon.

Limited Out

Perry, Jack, Ben, Kris, and Rick limited out on halibut, even though it was a rainy day. Nice job, gentlemen! (Too bad Kris left the dock before this photo was taken.)

Spinner fishing at Whale Pass

It's fun to cast a spinner into a school of fish as they make their way into the river. Keep an eye out and you might even see a bear on the beach.

Fish in the net!

Landing a silver salmon is as important as hooking one.

Showing off the catch.

Joanne and Christie are proud to present the halibut they caught while fishing with Capt. Lee.

31 Silver Salmon!!!

This returning group from California made room for Ben on the boat and they all had a great time catching salmon at Whale Pass. Those are some bright beautiful fish, aren't they?

Ben's 1st Halibut.

Ben did a great job bringing in his first halibut.

It's a 'pooner!

Capt. Lee prepares the harpoon for Rick's halibut.

Now that's a fish!

Great job, Rick. It was a pleasure to have you on the Silver Talon.

Sheer Joy!

Rick was thrilled with his big halibut. So were we!!

Spinning for silvers...

Kris caught this coho while using a spinning reel off the back of the boat. Nice fish, Kristopher!

Good day!

Kris and Rick would have liked to catch more fish, but it was a beautiful day on the water.

Show the white side!

Kris had to turn the halibut around to show us that tremendous snow belly.

Tremendous Trio...

What nice halibut they are! Congratulations!

***Note: Photos from this point on were taken in 2007 or before. The ones above are from the summer 2008 season.

Lots of beards!

And it looks like they were good luck on the water.

Fishermen in camo!

It's hard for the fish to see you coming when you're wearing camouflage. Just kidding! It was a good day for catching halibut.

Terrific Halibut

That is a nice halibut standing up with the fishermen.

Just plain silly....

It was a good day of fishing that ended with some silly faces at the dock. It's good to have that much fun!

A rainy day...

Although the camera lens was a little wet, there's no mistaking the awesome fish this group caught late in August.

Capt. Lee or Capt. Eel?

You be the judge!

Impressive catch!

This group did a nice job of catching some beautiful fish.

The Hobie Pro Staff returns!

We're always happy to see Mike and Dennis with their groups. Fishing is always better with great clients onboard.

Great catch!

Another terrific day on the Silver Talon catching halibut and other bottom fish.

Yelloweye!

That's some orange fish! Not a bad selection on the dock, either. Good fishing, guys!

Look who came back!

Kelly joined the fishermen for a day on the water. Welcome back, Kelly.

Lots of smiles!

Fishing with Capt. Lee almost guarantees a day full of smiles to go with your fish.

How many fish are there?

You have to stretch to reach across them all.

Sunshine!

These fishers not only spent a day in the August sun, they also caught a nice mess of fish.

Walk-ons Welcome!

As long as he has room, Capt. Lee is always happy to have people join him. Looks like these "last-minute" fishers had some good luck on the water.

Tremendous Catch, Fay!

From the look on her face, it's obvious that Fay is excited about her big halibut.... and she should be!

Raingear & Fish Go Together-

This group was glad to have their raingear on for a wet summer day of fishing. They had a great time on the Silver Talon!

The Group from Roseburg, Oregon....

These fishermen enjoyed several days of fishing with Capt. Lee. This was a very good day on the water.

Larry H. Shipley and His Halibut...

Larry caught a dandy halibut on his 2007 charter with Capt. Lee.

Excellent Day!

Dave, Larry, Al, and Myra spent the day fishing with Capt. Lee catching a variety of fish: halibut, salmon, and bottomfish.

Beautiful Day!

There's nothing better than catching fish on a sunny day.

Al & Myra...

Myra had to get her puppy from the cabin, so she missed the photo with the rest of the group, but now the poodle will be famous.

(Thanks, Travis, for letting us "borrow" those 2 fish.)

Helping Hands

Adam needed Capt. Lee and Jeff's help to pull his halibut up from the depths of the sea.

Making Plans to Harpoon...

Capt. Lee explains to Jeff what's going to happen when he harpoons the beast. It's important to keep tension on the line at all times. Adam is paying close attention, too.

"No fish can take down 2 balls!"

This halibut drug two floats around and under the water after being harpooned twice. Someone also said, "You're gonna need a bigger boat." Sound familiar?

It's time for the big gun!

Capt. Lee carefully moves the floats so he can get a good shot at the huge halibut.

VICTORY!!!

After a one hour and forty minute fight, the fish is at the side of the boat and won't be getting away. It's time for celebration!

Now that's a BARNDOOR HALIBUT!

Adam hooked and fought this halibut from start to finish. From the look of the smiles, it's clear it was worth the effort.

Group Effort....

It took the muscle of everyone on the dock to hang this halibut for a photo. The sign was swaying, but it held.

Exhausted, but happy-

Everyone onboard was ready to come into the dock after the catch of a lifetime. What an experience for all of us!

Adam's Halibut!

Adam did a great job of landing this monster fish. It's the biggest on the dock so far this year and a record for the Silver Talon. Captain Lee estimates its weight at about 300 pounds. Way to go, Adam!

Good Job!

Jeff gives Adam a well-deserved handshake and Capt. Lee offers a thumbs up for a job well done. Fantastic fish!

Lots of Meat!

The fillets from the big halibut weigh more than many of the fish brought into the dock in Coffman Cove. We're still impressed!

(Photo submitted by Becky Igo.)

Hey!

"I caught a nice halibut, too!" With all the attention being paid to the barndoor, it was hard to get a picture of this fish.

Good Fishing!

SE Alaska is a good place to fish for halibut, salmon, and bottom fish.

Good Friends...

Jeff invited some friends up to fish in Coffman Cove. They weren't disappointed.

Pair o' Kings-

By the end of July, the Kings are starting to put on some size. These are 2 very good examples of that.

Family Time...

Adam, Luke, Sandy, and Jeff spent the day fishing as a family. What a good time they had!

Luke's Halibut!

Luke did a great job landing this big halibut.

Expert Advice!

Becky, "the professional fish filleter," gives some tips to Luke on correctly filleting a halibut. He did a great job!

Combined Catch-

Some of this group fished with Capt. Lee, while the others fished on another boat. Because they came to Alaska together, they wanted a picture with all of them and their catch in it.
